Be a doer of the Word.
Happy Friday!
For the month of January, we’ll be circling around the idea of being a “doer.” What does it mean to be a doer?
Specially, let’s consider what James 1 has to say about the importance of being a doer. A doer is someone who follows through with what they say they’ll do, or in today’s focus, someone who does what Scripture says. A doer of the Word.
James says in 1:22-25, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
Prior to this verse, James encourages us to stand firm with joy in trials, to ask God for wisdom, and to resist temptation. Then we are brought to this call. To be doers. It’s much easier to sit in church listening to Scripture or a sermon or through your car or phone speakers, but are we obedient to the Word as well?
What do you think is the greatest challenge we face in being a doer and how have you overcome?
